Ponce Inlet Proposal
Kylie and Joe
I have known Joe for around the last decade (give or take), so needless to say when Joe texted me a few months back and told me that he was having an engagement ring custom made for Kylie and he wanted me to photograph their proposal, I was THRILLED! I live for moments like these. Since the two of them live in Buffalo, this session was planned 100% through text messages, which wasn’t easy. Joe had this day planned out to a T, after their session he was going to take her to The Garlic for dinner, and he even purchased her favorite bottle of wine to celebrate. The special thing about the wine was that it was only available at a winery in Canada, so he drove there to get it for her.
A week before the session Joe and I went over all of the details to make sure we both knew our jobs (mine was to hide the ring & of course, make photos!) and Lindsay, my second shooters job, was to distract Kylie! When we met for their session we started walking towards all the beautiful scenery in Ponce Inlet. Lindsay distracted Kylie perfectly, while Joe gave me the small black box which contained one of the most gorgeous rings I have ever seen. Our original plan was for the session to be 2 hours, but 30 minutes into it (even though it was already 6:30- it was HOT) Joe gave me the signal that we may need to hurry things along. He asked if we could drive over to the lighthouse area where there may possibly be some more shade to do some more pictures. I happily agreed and we made our way over to the lighthouse.
No luck. 10 minutes in to pictures there Joe said “Laura we might have to wrap this up and do the session in the cooler months” so we decided to “end” the session with individual portraits of the two. Lindsay took Kylie away for some portraits, while I took Joe to the gazebo which was behind Kylie. I opened my bag, handed Joe the little black box, told him where to walk, and wished him luck! He walked up to Kylie, got down on one knee, and waited for her to turn around.
It was the perfect moment and Kylie had absolutely no clue! Of course she said “yes!” and the two had a sweet moment together. To wrap up the session we went back to Ponce Inlet park and did a few more photographs, and then the newly engaged couple went out to celebrate! In one of the last photos we made, you can see a flock of birds flying overhead. It was such perfect timing! You can see that image and more that tell the story of their engagement below!
Congratulations again, you two! Take a look at some photos from their session and don’t forget to leave them some love & well wishes in the comments!
Kylie and Joe will be the “Session of the Summer” in our monthly newsletter which goes out tomorrow! To subscribe click here.
